Why Metadata fields matter, and how they help you get the most from your data

At TuMeke, metadata fields are one of the most important foundations for success. They help you organize, analyze, and act on your video data with clarity and precision.

What Are Metadata Fields?

Metadata fields are the tags and categories that describe your videos — such as Assessment version, Location, Department and Job type. Think of them as the structured “labels” that make your data searchable, sortable, and analyzable across your TuMeke platform.

For example:

Video Name:

Metadata Fields:

“RULA, San Diego CA, Warehouse Team, Lifting Boxes onto Shelf B ”

Assessment Version: Rula; Location: San Diego, CA Plant Department: Warehouse Team; Job Type: Lifting Boxes onto Shelf B

How TuMeke Uses Metadata

TuMeke uses these metadata fields to help you:

  • Categorize videos consistently across teams, sites, and time periods.

  • Filter and compare results — e.g., review performance by location, job type, or safety risk.

  • Identify trends — quickly spot where issues are recurring or improvements are holding strong.

  • Generate meaningful insights for leadership, audits, or safety initiatives.

This structured approach ensures that your TuMeke dashboards, reports, and analytics reflect the true picture of your organization’s safety performance.

Why Metadata Fields Are Crucial

Metadata is the engine behind accurate reporting and actionable insights. Without it, data can become fragmented or hard to interpret.

With it, you can:

  • Pinpoint areas of concern or opportunity faster.

  • Understand where your teams are excelling from a safety standpoint.

  • Track progress over time with confidence and consistency.

Simply put — strong metadata equals strong insights.

Getting Started

During onboarding, you’ll be responsible for:

  1. Selecting key metadata fields relevant to your organization.
    1. TuMeke uses a set of Standard Metadata fields, applicable to most of our customers: Assessment Version, Location, Department and Job Type
    2. We can always add additional fields based on your needs
  2. Defining standard naming conventions for consistency.
    1. We’ll want to pre-load options for each metadata field.
      1. Example: For location, we’ll want a list of all of the potential locations where a video could be uploaded, such as: Los Angeles Warehouse, Los Angeles Storefront, Washington DC Warehouse, Miami Warehouse, etc.
  3. Applying metadata during uploads to make every video analysis-ready from day one.

Preparing your metadata fields early helps streamline onboarding and ensures your team gets immediate value from TuMeke’s analytics and reporting tools.
